Cat removal on a 2000 Volvo S70 - advantages?
Hello to all on here. This is my second Volvo that I have owned and love these cars.I have a 2000 Volvo S70 GLT SE turbo 2.4 the last year these was made.I have to ask,When that cat go bad is it best to just remove the cat for more horse power or even better flow for the engine?if so will it throw a engine code? Can someone give me the best advice on this matter.I think my cat is going bad throwing the same code that a lot of Volvo owners get.Cat below thresh hold.

The cat converter code can be triggered if the oxygen sensors are starting to act a little funky. I also have a tendency to get it after I've added a fuel additive such as Seafoam, MMO, or HEET. I would highly recommend keeping the cat converter if it isn't dead, as it does a very effective job at neutralizing some very bad emissions. I don't claim to be some super environmentalist, but those things really do help. If you want a couple more HP, have someone weld in a new exhaust with hi-flow muffler. I did that, love the results.

The best way to get rid of a cat is install a dog.. Haha!!! No real upside unless your modded. If your stock leave it on you probably have a bad primary O2 sensor. I'd maybe try changing that first.. Do you get an O2 sensor slow response at the same time you get the P0420?? If so change the front O2 first.!! My $0.02!!

No advantages unless you get a full system, and with a tune. Otherwise you actually LOSE torque

Removing the cat will give you improved performance and drivability. Simply put, turbo cars do not like restriction on the exhaust side.2000volvoturbo wrote: ↑26 Feb 2012, 14:01 Hello to all on here. Removing the cat on the S70 requires welding a new bung for the 2nd O2 sensor, be prepared with parts and skills. I have yet to find a catless dp for the S70. YOu will need an O2 sensor spacer OR you'll need a tune that deletes the 2nd O2 sensor. IF you choose the latter you can just forget the welding and delete the plug Hilton can do this for you.

It’s an ancient thread from 2012 but is a Federal crime to tamper with emission control stuff on a car, still.
