Maybe you can suggest that the R is too rare to use as a work truck, but the GLT is perfect for that purpose?? :D :lol: :lol:

Oh for sure, that's the case. Those P80 R cars are aren't limited editions*, but they don't grow on trees either. I'd bring that up down the road if he was interested but not yet convinced.

Interesting idea and difficult decision. Your new silver GLT is quite nice on the inside. I wonder how it compares mechanically with the 850R. Would be a shame to trade a decent GLT for a beat R which requires much more time and money. It might not be worth it if an 850R causes as much headache as a V70R. Reminds me of scot850's FWD he sold and regretted compared to the R he kept and is tormented by.

Still, if a red R wagon speaks to your soul, then it's worth the effort to rehabilitate it. I've done more for less.

The advantage the 850R has is that it is FWD and therefore no more complex than any other FWD 850. The V70R is AWD and that brings a lot more complexity as well as a lot more NLA parts.

No response from the 850 R owner. I'm not crazy about AWD. All things being equal, I'd opt for FWD or RWD before AWD.

I am with you for the most part on your views of FWD/RWD/AWD in order although I do like RWD older cars in bad weather with good tires and sand bags in the trunk! Lots of fun in the snow. :D

Battery was dead, so I haven't driven it since July-ish. Got a new battery, put it in, and she started up BAM within a second of Pos III. Like a new car.

Took my son for a ride around the neighborhood and we talked about the differences between the V70 and our fairly modern daily driver.
