Hi Guys!
Just finished the DIY ABS module repair based on your tutorial!
Mounted back, plugged back the 2 connectors.
And now here is the fun part start, after start the TRACS light went off ABS light stayed on. I've done a couple miles of test drive, the abs light was still on. Then popped the hood wiggled the connector and wires on top of it, suddenly ABS light went off and ABS/TRACS both work fine since then.
After the rebuilt/resoldering although got back the ABS/TRACKS I lost my speedometer, cruise control and seatbelt warning.
VolFCR shows one code stored: CI-221 Vehicle speed signal missing.
What I am thinking now is that some of the wires go into the ABS module multiple pin connector are somehow either lost contact (corrosion) or broken at the coupling to the pins.
My car is a 1996 850 wagon.
What do you guys think?

Try to re-seat the connector. It is easy to think it is latched but it misses the pegs on the socket that draw it all the way closed.

That is exactly what happened! Reseated the connector and everything is perfect now.
My seatbelt reminder lights are still off but that could be a separate issue from the ABS.
Thank you guys for the DIY tutorial and thank you Lee for the great advice!
Thanks for the write up. I wasn't about to open up the abs pump just to get at the control module. I detached the brake lines from the fender,, cleared a few braces and lidtedcthe and unit to the point where I could get a torx bit and take of the control module. I have 6 screws holding it on and the bottom right was rusted and stripped. I then used vice grips. All in all, about 1.5 hours and after the swap everything is now working, Speedo, odometer and no lights. By the way, I picked up an complete

Great post and thread - thank you. This was a a fantastic project to do with our 16 year old...so cool for them to learn that using the power of community (this site) and pooled knowledge...along with a 'can do' attitude, we were able to restore a 25 year old electronic module. ...and they got to practice soldering skills. This site, and these things, are so much more than just about keeping old cars running. The message around 'you can repair it' to a young person seems so important in our world of climate change and too many things on the garbage pile. Thank you! (an aside) another thread says to use GE silicon, which is said there be non acetic acid based - seeing that was too late for us ...so we will see if we end up with problems or not. I will report back if so

I slid the black plastic cover off the motor to expose more of that black brittle wiring. I then coated the two individual wires with "liquid electrical tape", let it dry, and then wrapped them together with a good quality regular electrical tape. Then I slid the black covering back over the pump motor.

I exposed wires and even wires don't touch each other there is a short circuit. I think the short circuit is in the motor.454cid wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 11:10I slid the black plastic cover off the motor to expose more of that black brittle wiring.
