Hi - looking for advice on what to test/check/replace first.
My 2002 S60 was running great last year but around December it started running rough all of a sudden. It acts like it's on 4 out of 5 cylinders. I can smell unburnt fuel when I stop the engine. It idles very rough, accelerates decently but not like normal once RPM gets over 2500, cruises rough on level freeway at 60mph in drive, but smooths out at higher RPM if I downshift to 4th gear.
My guess is at least one cylinder isn't firing at all. Thanks for any suggestions.
Here's what the Innova 5300 LAT code reader at Autozone says:
p0300
random misfire detected
OTC severity 2 of 3
repair immediately
p0301
cylinder 1 misfire detected
p0302
cylinder 2 misfire detected
02 circuit high voltage
bank 1 sensor 1
p0456
evaporative emission system
very small leak detected - gas cap potentially
p0300 generic:
fuel sys 1 OL
fule sys 2 NA
calc load 5.9%
ECT 72°F
STFT B1 0.0%
2002 S60 OBD codes. Running horribly...

I suspect ignition coil, iv e had to replace mine when likewise ran horribly. Move to another cylinder to coil for the cylinder missing and see if the the miss moves with it

Likely coil, spark plug or grounding for cylinders 1 and 2.
Check that the wiring loom plugged into each coil is tight, snapped into place, and not coated with oil. Make sure each coil is secured by the hold down bolt. Double check the mating surface is clean since the coil is grounded thru the hold down bolt. Lastly, when was the last time you changed spark plugs, and did you use OEM Volvo or Bosch? You can always check the electrode condition on those two cylinders, and compare against a different cylinder.
Good luck. You'll be back up and running properly in no time.

I moved all the coil packs around and now I have a 303 error I didn't have before, so apparently the problem traveled with the coil pack now on 3.
Is there any way to erase all OBD error messages to get a fresh start? My OBD tool fails when I try it on that.

I discovered that my S80 took the same coil packs. I swapped one out with #3 and it runs perfectly now!!
Thanks everyone. Lifesavers! Now to get a replacement and get my S80 alive again.
