2007 V70 gasoline.
I was sent a very nice rack from a low mileage same year car but it has the speed sensitive solenoid.
My question is does anyone know how the solenoid functions. The assumption is that the solenoid activates a bypass at higher speeds to bleed off assist pressure to give more road feel. At lower speeds it’s full assist,…just like my old non assist rack.
If this is the case, then I can’t see any harm in installing this rack. The car won’t know it’s there, and if it’s not hooked to anything, no harm no foul.
Has anyone ever tried this?
And/or does anyone have the details on how the solenoid is designed to function.

Not worth the labour of doing that job twice. Nor price of the part in case you are unable to get a refund.
My opinion I would return the rack and purchase the correct one. It’s a pain to find and select the correct one- trust me I’ve done it three times.

All good points. But I am not too worried about labor time because I’m retired, and I have other means of transport. I am more intrigued by the challenge. Yea, I know,…corny. But I’ll get this sorted out in the end.
Another way to ask the same question might be:,…”Who has ever had the steering assist solenoid or wiring to the steering assist solenoid fail?,…and if so,…what happened? “.
That would reveal what the “stasis” position of the solenoid and solve my question. If it’s just “there” and not hooked up to anything,…what does it do to the steering. That would be my exact situation if I put the rack in.
