I asked before, but it was mixed in with other questions so may have been missed. I know the US as far as I know did not have the 10V engine, but for anyone that does, do you know if it has hydraulic valve followers/tappets? From this Volvo drawing on a Canadian Volvo parts site it looks like it may be. AS I have never stripped an engine, let alone a hydraulic tappet version , can anyone tell me if this looks like one in the picture, part #22a:
https://www.volvovancouverparts.ca/a/Vo ... 67866.html
I think I have also confirmed the crank pulley nut is a 30mm socket required, been a while. I may want to turn the engine to check the timing belt has not jumped.
Thanks,
Neil.

I think that all of these engines have hydraulic tappets 10 and 20v...even the smaller 4cyl ones in s/v40 from that time.

You can confirm by…
1 stuffing paper towels into your oil pan until the oil flow is clogged, then listening for the clicks, like I did…
Or
2 looking for the small mechanical shim ports on the top of the head like this ( picture to come)

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the info, but hopefully now not a concern. Water pump bearing looks to be the issue.
I was fairly sure the cars up to 98 had hydraulic lifters and solid after that. But still to confirm!
Neil.

Hydraulic to solid was a mid 1999 model year change , checked by engine number. Everyone of my four 99s happen to be hydraulic

Lifters change from hydraulic to solid, and valve stems from 7mm to 6mm, at engine 1817653 for T5s. I think that's pretty far into the run - my Dec '98 T5 has engine s/n 15xxxxx.
