Water pump brands for 850 base.

It has been on there for 7 years approx. I am thinking I will have to get the R dashboard mounts fixed and then the car can get dropped at my garage by the AMA (AAA) and then I can work on it and remove parts before ordering. Parts will take about 1 week or so to arrive if we wait until then. As I don't know who fitted it I am assuming it is a Volvo part but more likely an aftermarket part.

Volvo have told me what they believe it is, but I can check with the Vin# with the Vancouver Volvo Parts store and if they order it wrong then not my issue! Worst cast the car will have to sit in my old garage until the parts arrive.

I want to try to get the pump off ASAP to make sure if any of the bolts break then I have time to try to fix the broken bolt without delaying the process too long.

Looks like the owner wants to try to re-use the old hydraulic tensioner. Won't know if it is still good until it is compressed and the lock pin fitted. I would like then to fit up the belt, rotate the engine a couple of times and then leave over night and re-check that it is retaining tension before trying to start it and monitor it. Then refit the TB cover, serp tensioner and belt. I have not even looked closely at that for cracks.

I am toying as mentioned of going to the junkyard and seeing if either of the cars there have one still and pull one or both as spares.

So I was thinking of just going ahead and ordering a Water pump for starters. However, for me Rock Auto is the cheapest, but they list a different water pump part number for an 850 to a V/S70. FCP lists the same Aisin pump for all P80's?? What is going on??

FPC lists a WPV-800 and Rock Auto a WPV-802.

Volvo lists a pump for 850's only as below which would tie up with Rock Auto it would suggest?

Thanks for the suggestion 454cid. I saw the not you mentioned on the IPD website about the bolt length. Maybe the casting is different but interchangeable with the bolt change? If the bolts are different lengths then is the casting different in terms of thickness?

But is the bolts are different, would the pulley wheel be inset or outset relative to the timing belt?

My concern is if I get the owner to buy the WPV-802 and we buy the Volvo 850 TB kit they should work together as both part numbers are specifically for the 850. If I get him to buy the WPV-800 it may not work with the 850 TB kit. Then I will be stuck with the wrong pump and out of pocket. Can't expect him to pay for my error, but it will also set the repair back at least a week more waiting for the replacement part.

This is the stuff that drives me nuts with Volvo and their parts! It has been the same since my first Volvo in 1975!!

Well pump is ordered. Went with the Rock Auto option with cheap shipping and should be here in Calgary around mid-week. Means I have to get the lead out to repair the dash on the R and get it mobile for an 850 drop off!
