XC70 windshield mouldings

Time to replace some dried out rubber trim pieces.

On my '04 wagon, the rubber piece against the glass at both windshield posts is rotted. The parts diagram (doesn't) show #21, the windshield trim post. Is the rubber I see a piece of this #21? And this implies not available? Why don't they show ALL parts WITH the part #, so we can do our own searching?

I have the #30 pieces at the lower corners for both sides, but not the little sponge(?) seal.

As long as I'm putting in a new windshield (SO pitted), maybe I should replace the #2 seal on the plastic cowling.

The rubber is part of #21. The part is NLA from Volvo; aftermarket runs nearly $300 for a pair https://www.ipdusa.com/Catalog/Index?CA ... archwords=

Last year someone picked up a set for me from the junkyard. Wish I had another set for the S60.

Wow, really? I assume that's for airflow / noise, not a seal. It doesn't sit tight to the glass.

Is it common for that rubber to dry out? I wonder if a similar shaped thin rubber molding could be trimmed and glued instead the trim post.

I wonder why they discontinue various random things - you can buy old Mercedes parts ($$$), you can buy old BMW parts.

Volvo does not really care about the older cars. They sold all their pre-2000 stocks to a company in Sweden called GCP (gcp.se). They mostly run the stock out but do occasionally have new stuff made if enough interest is made and the OE supplier is willing to do so.

Are the moldings all the same for all years? There is a bunch of P2's in the local junkyard just now. I won't have time to go thee soon but will look and pull any that are there that look ok.

It's common here! On both of our P2 cars the rubber trim is basically disintegrating.

The rubber can be separated from the metal trim, just grab the bottom part of the rubber and peel it away from the painted trim. However the rubber alone is only available aftermarket e.g. the IPD link. S80, S60, XC90, XC70 all use the same rubber strip but it should be siliconed back in. I'm no expert on this, giving you the info secondhand from DonnVa viewtopic.php?p=603762#p603762

Almost every S60 has this problem. The question is does this trim(including the one that meets at the fender and hood junction)help reduce wind noise?

On my 2005 S60, the front windshield seems like my primary source of wind noise at speeds equal to and greater than 80km/h. I am almost certain it was quieter when I got it last year in August.

Remove it for summer or cut a central part out (this is what I did) - engine compartment will run much cooler.

Great link, Scott. Mine are black if you see any. Or I can paint them.
But it seems there is a gap between P2's and the last V70/S70 lines...

So he did that recently, in 2022.

The photo in my post above leans heavily to noise reduction - smooth all those joints around the base of the windshield while catching the water spreading across the glass.
