Transmission fluid leak?

Transmission fluid leak?

Greetings everyone,

While investigating the leakage of power steering fluid from the drivers side bellows, I came across this:

Not sure what this part is called, but will some JB Weld work?
Or should the cover be replaced? And if so, how easy/difficult would it be to remove?
Looks like there is a gasket or anaerobic gasket material that will need to be replaced as well.

Appreciate your help on this!

Sorry, but having difficulty orientating the picture to figure out what I am looking at. I think that is on the trans at the front and is possibly the solenoid cover. What I am not sure about is based on the color of the oil it looks like engine oil and not the reddy/brown of trans fluid depending on it's age.

If it stops running when the car has been standing, JB Weld has a couple of metal repair products that are fuel/oil resistant.

If the drip stops, clean it with brake cleaner and rub down the rust to give the sealer a good keyed surface to cling to.

40 years ago a BMW dealer cracked the fuel bowl and refused to repair it. I used a metal mending paste that was fuel resistant and it ran like that for 3 years and was still good when I changed the carb for a better one.

This cover is next to the mount that is bolted to the frame and the front of the transmission.
If you imagine going towards the back of the car from this point, the transmission oil cooler hose connects to the bottom of the transmission. Initially, I thought the seal to that hose was needing replacement, but the more I looked around there, the leak was more forward. Hence, the pictures.
I might have to drain the fluid to dry out the area. The leak shown was with the car parked and off.

Is that the valve body cover? I'm not familiar with the 1998 4-speed but here's my leaking 2000 5-speed (along with some valve body reseal info). The valve body cover had a layer of oil and debris on it. I wiped it all off with rags and it has come back very slowly over years due to a slow leak. Yours showing drips is clearly a larger leak. First step is always to clean it completely, then check soon after for the first signs of leak.

Degrease that sucker -- at the moment it could be from anywhere at any point in that car's life.

Leaking from PS bellows = new rack. That sucks!

Have cleaned the area around the leak spot. Applied JB Weld, but fluid still leaking. Maybe I needed to let the JB Weld dry/set over a longer time. I waited about an hour before putting in new fluid.

I have drained the fluid from the transmission and was able to separate the JB Weld from the mystery cover. Not sure what to do now.
Looks like to gain better access to this cover I need to remove the mount and the oil cooler hose.

Any idea what this cover is called or a part number.

Removed the torque mount to the bottom of the transmission to gain access to the cover with the leak. This cover houses the end of the transmission dipstick, has a few bolts on it with 10mm heads.
Used a dremel to sand the area and found the hole.

Put some weld on it with a soldered iron. Waited a few minutes before adding fluid - the repair worked, but another hole appeared!

Put some weld on that after cleaning the area with the dremel (sanding and then brushing).

I think the welds will help, but may apply some JBWeld just to make sure they don’t fall off!
Now to reinstall the torque mount- thank goodness for heat!

Get a replacement torque mount as well. Yours isn't even worth reinstalling.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.
