Worn Rotors

My front rotors on my '02 v70 seem to have a groove with a small amount of metal sticking out on the top and bottom. Since braking is otherwise fine, do the rotors need to be replaced?

How much brake pad is left?

Not much, I'm planning to replace the pads soon.

Volvo and some aftermarket suppliers have a minimum thickness specification for rotors. I have seen Volvo and Brembo sometimes stamping into the metal around the edge of the rotor these values. You may have to wire brush the edge of the rotor to see if it is there.

I’d replace the pads and rotors then.

Rotors have gotten so inexpensive it’s hard to justify turning the rotors to take that lip off, even if within spec. Very likely those rotors will never live through the next set of pads.

I recall paying $36 per disk at AUTOZONE.
cheap enough...not worth messing with.

New 26.0 mm

Wear limit 23.0 mm

Is that both front and rear abscate? I used to have a note about it. I took a 2nd look at the pictures and realized that there was a big lip on them which I missed before but the good keen eyes did not! Yes those will not run another set of pads as has been stated. New Rotors needed.

Haynes paper manual agrees - 23 mm wear limit for FRONT Except for 305 mm Diameter brakes. The big brakes wear limit is 25 mm.
Rear wear limit is 10 mm.
