I just did mine today, I don't know how the swedes crafted the most rust prone steel for those brackets, but it must have been a scientific breakthrough at the time.

As far as other things, I went to buy another car today, which I knew was burning a bit of oil, but on the test drive it drove great, I figured if I nursed it home 100 miles I could tinker away at it.
Died due to lack of gas 3 min from sellers house, miles til 0 said 40 miles. The seller graciously came with 2 gallons in a can, and the car started right up after a jump. It drove great, I pulled into a gas station, filled it up with super (the attendant did, thanks New Jersey....) and started right up.
Check engine light popped on and engine running a little rough(upper torque bushing was shot), so I pulled into a lot, and parked on a bit of a nose down slope. After that, car would crank away, no start.
Tried jumping it, swapping idle air controller with my other 98 V70XC, unplugged MAF, spray cleaned MAF, checked for spark, heard the fuel pump kick on, a mechanic came over and tried, could not get the thing to start, just an occasional sputter.
It got dark and then it got late, didn't think to check the fuel rail Schrader valve before heading home.
Codes that came in were for cylinder 4 injector low signal, and cylinder 4 injector open circuit. I tried unplugging it and starting the car, but no dice.....

Post those rusty gems in Name That Rusty Part. Notch at the top is a giveaway there. But which side? That challenge was posed before.

Saw the pic, immediately thought it was an epic fuel leak. There's your "no start" right there. Good luck with it.

Fuel pump, probably the reason the seller sold it. You need to speak to Abscate to find his source for the NLA OE pump and what he has learned from fitting it. You didn't say what year the V70Xc is as it may have different issues if it is a 98 v's a 99-00.

Check fuel pressure: 98 - around 43 psi is optimal 99-00 is around 55-60 psi running, maybe lower prior to starting.

Check the fuel pump relay - Jumper the connections to see if it may be the issue. You may hear the pump, but the relay can fail when warm and under load.

MAF may still be bad, but if the car did not start with the connector cable removed, then the MAF is probably not the issue.

Coolant temp sensor. See if the car starts when cold. Not foolproof, but may be an indicator of an issue with it or the connector to it.

If you mean the giant puddle, it's my luck to end up in a couple inches deep of muddy water outside someones junkyard, if you mean the film on the mud, from where it was coming from I thought it was tire foam/road grime seeping off the tires or kicked up from the bottom of the puddle.
Yes, once I get it back here, should be a fun time...

It's a 98. Shame to hear the pumps are NLA, would love to know the source.
Good info on the fuel pressure, I wish I had a gauge with me, a guy who stopped to help said he just cleared out his truck to drive his kids around, and left his snap on scan tool and fuel pressure gauge at home.
Lots of good points I didn't think about in the moment.

I forgot to mention that just prior to me shutting the car off for the last time, the idle was surging, which is why I tried swapping the known good IAC valve out of the running 98 I had driven down there.

Drivers' side window wouldn't go all the way down on the new-to-me 850; that's an inspection fail in DE, plus a rattle on closing, which is a fail in my view anyway.
Some door card fasteners goofy or missing, a few bolts loose, new door speaker obviously installed by a Tuner Tunes Shop, and in the bottom of the door:

I was out of time, patience, and heart, so I put the track on the spare parts shelf and put the poor thing back together. Window goes all the way down.

Has the bracket broken off the back of the door? That is what usually gives a hint either the rivet or bracket has broken. The 850 uses a Torx bolt to hold the bracket if I recall and the V/S70's use a rivet. The brackets are interchangeable, but the mount on the door is. Rivet or bolt.

I've seen a lot of XC70s in junkyards recently. Seems like a great source for those NLA and expensive parts like the fuel pump, Nivomats, egg crate grills, etc. I imagine they're there due to people giving up on them. Could these be useful to pick for parts, or are all the parts worn out?

Today's milestone. Cylinder head is in place and torqued down. No broken bolts today. 36 inch breaker bar made quick work for the last torque step.
