Front door speakers randomly stopped working. At a loss for why.

I drove my 2004 S60 home yesterday and all the audio system was perfectly fine. I did some cleaning and maybe got just the tiniest bit of cleaning spray on the speaker grille from my towel, but nothing considerable. I also cleaned the head unit (HU-613) while the car was off and moved some buttons. Today (the next day,) I’m driving to work and suddenly my front door speakers aren’t working on both sides. The subs in the rear deck and the rear door speakers are still working, just not any of the speakers in the front doors. I’m at a loss for why and what could have happened, and I have no idea where to even start trouble shooting a solution. I’d appreciate any ideas, thanks.

Did you remove the head unit? What exactly do you mean by move some buttons? Cleaning spray on the speaker grille shouldnt do anything, but if too much got in the head unit it could have damaged it. Its possible that some of the wiring is going bad where the door bends. Do the speakers work temporaraly with the doors open or when moving the door?

I didn’t actually spray the head unit directly. Just wiped it with some spray already on the towel. I’ll try moving the doors and see if they come back on. Just seems strange to me for both sides to have gone out at the same time

Possibly something is wrong with the fader/balance knob. Try fiddling with it and see if it changes anything.

I’m not currently with the car at the moment. I was under the impression that that was only a button, are you saying that it twists as well and that’s what controls the fader and balance?

If you press on the button, it should pop out. Then you can twist it. If your volvo has fader and balance combined into one knob (label is "fader/bal", then you can pull on it after it is popped out and it clicks so you can ajust the other setting. I dont remember if it is fader or balance ajustment before or after you pull on the knob.

Thank you so much! I can’t believe I’ve owned the car this long without knowing those knobs actually turn. I’ve been wondering what they did. Such a stupid problem but it’s fixed now! Thanks again!
