Cam Position Wheel Bolt Stripped

Post by rhlee222000 »

Hi,
My Granddaughter drives a 2007 S40, 2.4. Has been a solid runner but needs a timimg belt. Today I started tearing into it, planning to replace the seals on the cams and crank also, as well as fixing the oil filter housing. I removed the rear cam covers and attempted to remove the "wheel" under the cam position sensor using a T30 torx. I stripped the torx bolt. Does anyone have any ideas how to remove the bolt at this point? I really don't want to replace the belt without doing the cam seals too.
Thanks,
Rick

I thought about this alot. It's not really in a good spot to try and drill it out, our use a screw extractor. If I mess it up, I don't think I have the time nor the skill te replace a broken cam. There doesn't appear to be a huge amount pf oil leaking from the cam seals. I just might replace the oil pump and crank seals, repait the oil filter housing and put the new timimg belt on. The car is only really driven around town and this may be my best choice.

This happened to me as well but I just left it for the time being and only did the timing belt and other stuff.

Another technique I've used: a Dremel (or angle grinder or something similar) with small thin cutting disk. Cut a nice slot in the head and use a regular straight-blade screwdriver- preferably one with a square shank so you can put a wrench on it and get some torque on it.

Some might MIG or TIG a nut or short bolt onto it, but I'm guessing that's not in your bag of tricks.

I don't know- does anyone know if they're left-handed (counterclockwise to tighten) thread bolts?
