I went to start it on Saturday and it seemed fine like nothing was happening. It didnt start rough, started right away. I went and changed the spark plugs, wires, ignition coil and air filter anyway. The plugs looked really old and burnt but the wires looked used but in good condition. I found one loose spark plug, it was super loose and came out like it wasn't even hand tigh. Also they were mismatched between NGK and Bosch. Not sure if that makes a difference. The ignition coil looked old almost like it was the original.I didn't do the fuel pump. Didn't have compression tools to take the lines off plus they looked different in wiring. My brother and I did the work and I did see that there was some gunk the throttle body after the snorkel so we did a sea foam spray to clean all that out since my brother swears by them that he's done it to all his cars ans they work better after the sea foam treatment. Ran the car a bunch of times up and down took it for a long drive and it felt great. Good power, great throttle response. After I put everything together, I forgot to plug in the MAF so it has the check engine light on so I'm gonna have to clear that code. I guess time will tell if the car will work without doing that stalling issue.

I’m rolling up from Stony Brook via Bridgeport Tuesday Wednesday so could stop in if that works. Schedule and Route is a bit open at moment so not sure which day will work but let’s see.

I’ll pm you my mobile for text, that’s best

The MAF could have been your issue. It will be interesting to see if the issue goes away and stays away once it is re-connected.

Strange about the loose spark plug. I worked on an 850 recently and one of the plugs was barely hand tight!

The MAF was probably disconnected for about a minute. I saw the car turn the check engine light on and told my brother who was in front of the engine bay and he told me to shut it off so I did and then he told me you forgot to plug this in.

You can run it without being connected for a short time to confirm if the MAF is good or not. No harm done. If the ECU does not sense the MAF as it is disconnected, it guesses at the settings the engine needs and uses default parameters.

That MAF code will clear itself after several successful drive cycles of the MAF being plugged in. It’s easier just to clear the code with a readers unless an emission inspection is due

Didn't notice anywhere in the thread if you have a code reader; you've done enough to change things under the hood, my suggestion would be to read and clear the codes, then drive around a bit to see if any return. Parts stores like Advance and Autozone usually have somebody qualified to use their own code reader for that.

You know what that's not a bad idea. If God forbid it does the same issue again, I'm gonna unplug the MAF and see if it stops the issue.

The Good thing about that car being 25yrs old is that here in CT it doesn't need an emissions test. So I won't have to worry so much if there's a check engine light on that i won't be able to register or renew it. My stepson wanted classic plates tor it so he got them. Looks nice on it.

That is good, but disconnecting the MAF is only meant for short periods to test the MAF. The ECU when the MAF is not connected then tries to figure out what the car needs, which can lead to it running rich, poor fuel economy, and worse, running lean which can damage the valves.
