Can I jack up the car from the lower control arm?

Post by 02V70 »

I don't have ramps, but I have some wooden blocks I screwed together that are 6 inches tall that I want to put under the wheels to lift the front of the car. I was able to use these for another car that had an axle that I could jack from. Since I can't jack the car up high enough to get the wheels on it, can I put a jack under the lower control arm, to raise the tire? Or would this break something?

No, you will bend it. Put some 2x4 under your floor jack.

youtube has lots of examples of diy wood ramps, or look for used ramps online.

Do the lift in multiple steps until you get to the full lift height.

Agree with these guys.
I only lift from the front crossmember or subframe, or the jack points under the doors. You can do one side at a time if that works for you.
