The cam locking tool makes this part easier, but it's not 100% necessary. The slots in the back of the cams align with the seam of the cam cover to the cylinder head. Exhaust slot is offset to the bottom side, intake if offset to the top side. Then bolt on the cam gears.ZionXIX wrote: ↑03 Sep 2023, 09:32
I actually had another question here. When you place the cams on the cylinder head, how do you know the proper orientation? Do you just eye ball the back side notches? I thought a cam locking tool was necessary when sett8ng time from scratch. Also do the cam shaft seat all the way down before tightening the cam cover bolts?
I like to use the cam lock to make it easier to preload the VVT. That can be a little tricky to do without turning the camshaft forward.
