Re: 06' V70 Front End Damage Repair
Looks like I may have found a hood in the correct color and a radiator support from an 06' S60 at a recycler 45 mins from me. I will take a look at that later in the week. This is apparently interchangeable with the V70. Bumper cover is of course different.

Sanchius has done a marvelous job on the repair of his daughters XC. From what I have been seing though, it would be hard to get all those parts for $500. I'd say you would have to double that in today's market, and especially here in New England.

This weekend was a lot of running around checking out junk yards and making a ton of phone calls. The hood I looked at had sat under a pine tree for who knows how long and it was scratched up and had a small dent at the front edge. I can't get over my picky self and so I left it behind. I did get a radiator support, a radiator fan and a passenger front door in really nice shape, so that trip wasn't for nothing.
My pass side front door was badly scratched when I got the car last summer from what looked like dog paws and I always wanted to replace it. So I will take care of that now while I'm at it.
I have a lead on another hood in 471 on LI, as well as a lead on a front bumper also in LI, which I will take in any color and paint it myself. There are many bumper covers available for XC70 and S60, but not for a plain Jane V70. I guess that makes sense because Volvo sold so many more of those in those years.
I also pulled the busted bumper and headlights off and got rid of them right away. Then I pulled the radiator back, filled it up with water and started the car. It started right up but it didn't want to idle after the cold start phase. It ran fine feathering it. I had a water hose feeding the reservoir so it wouldn't overheat.
There is a little bypass valve of sort on the intake that is busted. It connects to the intake pipe after the MAF, so I think this might be causing the idle problem, but I'm not sure. Also, my air filter housing is cracked in half, but that should be an easy fix.
Still kind of sad looking:

Shame 03 is different to the 006. This is in a local yard, but even if it fit is hard to get it to you.

So LPT, the black crossmember / rad support bolts through the top of the inner fender, just inboard of the actual fender bolt "gutter?" I thought maybe that was welded and you'd have to redo that.
Also, what is the body-color sheet metal piece beneath it, which looks quite twisted? Are there essentially two radiator support pieces? That piece does appear welded.

You are correct, the "Radiator Support" is connected on both sides to the inner fender support gutter right above the headlights. Where it's bolted on, the sheet metal is only slightly twisted, that's not going to be a problem to straighten out. It's funny that the black sheet metal is called rad support, because it's actually not supporting the radiator. The radiator is "hanging" off those twisted sheet metal pieces that you see in the photos. They are spot welded to the side of the frame rails on the bottom, and to the inner fender gutters on the top sides. These are going to be challenging to straighten out, but I think it's doable. My first thought was to replace them, but that would require finding a donor and cutting them out. Probably impossible because it would require disassembly of the entire front end of an intact car.BlackBart wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 16:28 So LPT, the black crossmember / rad support bolts through the top of the inner fender, just inboard of the actual fender bolt "gutter?"
