What did you use? The high temp chaulk I used did not dry all the way through so wasn't hard. I inserted some thick radiator hoses and filled with the high temp chaulk. Winded up oozing a little.

Though the hot glue was sufficiently hard it couldn't with stand the engine heat. Imagine if the glue stick could handle the heat. Two large sticks was sufficient to fill it.

I honestly couldn't tell you as it ended up exploding out the other end of the tube and I threw it away. It could have been silicone tile caulk or maybe gorilla glue construction adhesive. I do know that using polyurethane such as sikaflex used for windshield bonds works well, you just need a high ratio 26:1 caulk gun (normal cheap steel ones are 5:1-10:1 ratios). If you're doing anything involving steel you should also stay away from silicone, the guy who replaced my windshield told me it is acidic when curing and will etch into steel and cause it to rust under the silicone. He showed me some pictures of cars someone tried to use silicone sealant to attach the windshield and it ended up rusting away the entire windshield frames.

As to why I did it? Seeing how many parts have gone NLA or been backordered, or how the availability of aftermarket parts variety has dwindled gives me anxiety.

Many sealants are self vulcanizing and contain acetic acid. You can tell from the vinegar smell. Once at a work place, self vulcanizing sealant was used to seal a lid on a steel tank. Later all of the internals of the tank were found rusting.

Took the 850 to the carwash, came home and mowed, which covered it in dust. Cleaned the windshield and then RainXed it. I found I have a aerosol can of RainX, while looking for my starting fluid for another project, so I decided to try it out. I'm going to do the same with the S70.

The other project is older Kohler generator I bought recently. It's been sitting for quite some time, but I suspect is low hours. It fired on starting fluid, and then ran for a few seconds on some 2-stroke mix I had in a bottle.

Replaced the seized rear brakes in the Silver Bullet with new Pagid pads and rotors, as well as Cardone-refurbished calipers, which appeared to have a lightly applied gray-beige powder coating.

The caliper looks good. I'm contemplating doing the same thing on my 97 850. How much trouble if any did you have loosening up the brake lines?

I soaked them in PB Blaster well before starting, and one side loosen nicely. The other side seemed to bind after a couple of turns, so I ended up holding the brake line and turning the caliper off of it and the new one back on.

Don't spray the rotors with any brake cleaner just wipe with alcohol if needed. Many rotors now come with a break in coating while the remainder keeps it from rusting.

The steel corrodes, the sealant will live long and prosper….

Yesterday I had to pull the battery from the 1987 244 Volvo for use in the John Deere mower. While the hood was open, I added some oil to the sticky hood release and some WD-40 to the hood hinges. The grill is removed by two quarter turn clips. Checked the oil level. Admired the basic simplicity of the design that is now 36 years old.

It is funny you mention those twist clips for the 240 grille. While the never ending parts cataloguing of the smaller parts goes on, I came across one of those 240 grille clips. Considering I sold my last 240 around 1988, I have no idea why I have one of them still. Only other possibility is my parents had a 240 until about 2004? and I brought back some parts from my dad's house when he passed and maybe it was in there. Amazed myself that I recognized it after all these years!
