1992 240 ignition coil wiring

Post by rmozer »

Can anyone help me to know which terminal wires go to which terminal on my new ignition coil?
There's a red/white wire and a blue wire.
The terminals are labeled -1 and +15. Based on their position using my old coil as a guide, it looks like the red/white goes to the -1 and the blue goes to the +15.
Is that correct?
If I connect them backwards, will it cause damage to the new coil? or to anything else?
Thanks.

Blue wire goes to 15, Red/White goes to 1.

Back when dinosaurs and carbs still roamed the earth,
every motorhead had a handle on basic coil theory.

12v + is supplied to the coil at all times when the key is in run.
The - side of the coil is the side that's connected and disconnected
to ground at the right time by the ignition system to generate spark.

So, only one of those two wires will show 12+ with the key on.

All part of the charm of owning a pre-coilpack Volvo. 👍
