Hey guys… as the title says, my speedometer and odometer stopped working. It was working intermittently but had now seemed to quit for good. One of my friends thinks it related to my ABS module because my ABS light is on…
Any ideas?

Your friend is most likely very correct in this situation. Buy him a beer.
To serious talk. Your speed signal comes from ABS so from most usual to less.. ABS module solderings are cracked due age and stress (this mostly results multiple fault codes which are not pointing any direct sensor being faulty but multiple points).. Then sensor or its wiring if it complains of one sensor being bad OR the sensor trigger wheel thingy around CV axle is rusty and teeths gone. Most likely its ABS box if its never been fixed yet on these but as mentioned it can be verified with code reading.

Kesha-
Yeah, on the '98 that's going to be the ABS module.
You can get a repaired one sent to you (and you send your old one in) from Midwest ABS.
It's a fairly simple swap out, as long as the bolts holding it in place aren't corroded too badly.

Mattymoo at MIDWEST will be your best friend on this one, as Chuck says. It’s about a $100 fix

Not suggesting a DIY but it's done frequently. On my second, the first was a 98 S70 T5.

I think $139 is the going rate these days, if you mail it in. An exchange is $20 more. Still a steal though.

Abscate, your prices are way out. Last I checked the re-built Mid-West modules were nearer $160-170 plus shipping.
I know this drives folk mad, but short term, try to wedge some cardboard down between the connectors and the abs unit. Golf tee is another option. This will maybe help prove the issue is the ABS module failure as described. The wedge pushes the connectors up toward the point they have separated from and should give you enough of a contact to see if it is the issue. I do NOT recommend this as a fix!!
If everything starts working again it eliminates the ABS sensors as a possible issue as well.
Neil.

DIY is pretty straightforward - not sure what you’re talking about. Did this job on mine in about a half hour.MoVolvos wrote: ↑07 Dec 2023, 09:51 .

It’s almost guaranteed to be the module. Get a new one from Midwest ABS and you’ll be set for the rest of the life of the car
