98 S70 base Ac quit after new battery
98 S70 base Ac quit after new battery
Everything was working fine until the battery went dead. Jump started just fine, ac worked good all the way home. Replaced the dead battery and now, no cold air. Compressor is not running. Checked the fuse and relay, both pressure switches, hooked up my Guage set freon looks ok. Reset the system by removing the battery for an hour, shorted the positive and negative cables together for 15 seconds. I've done this 3 times. Connected the clutch wire to 12 volts, compressor runs but still nothing but hot air. Looking for other things to fix this. Any suggestions?

When you say the compressor runs do you mean the clutch pulls in??

You've probably lost Freon. You can't assess freon level unless the clutch is engaged, compressor running, and system is equilibrated. A static freon pressure reading can be from 20-100 psi...very little can be learned from this.
If the compressor runs, and you have freon, then the compressor is probably internally failed.

You may find someone to.agree with you about the battery however I find the 2 events unrelated. Time to properly faultfind your AC. Can you rent some guages and buy a couple of cans of freon?
Lots of great guides here on MVS about AC repair.

Mine quit when i unplugged the high side pressure switch while car was running and the only way i could keep the clutch engaged afterwards was by sliding a piece of cardboard into the contacts of the relay. I did end up with a dead battery in the morning but after charging it and resetting the ECU (touching both terminal cables together) everything returned to normal. Never understood what got the AC to work again, either the reset or full charged battery but it got me scratching my head.

I have a good gage set, freon level is good but not having a high side port it's difficult to equalize the system. I tried to put in some freon low side pressure is at 55 psi. Air blows hot with the compressor running. Low side pressure drops to 55 psi from 85 psi when the compressor runs.
I'm scratching my head too. I'm going to try another shutdown and reset sequence just to see what happens. If that doesn't work, it's off to the stealer ship with it.

You don't need a high side port with this design. What's the low side pressure after 15 minutes of running at 1500 rpm with the AC turned on max and jumping the clutch?
If you don't have any cold pipes on with the AC clutch engaged after 2 minutes it is one of
Compressor dead
No freon
Blocked system...orfice tube or condensor
