2001 Volvo V70 T5 M56. 140,000 miles. Has been throwing a P0014 since I bought it in May. Since May, I've replaced or had replaced the following related parts:
CEM (mechanic also said timing looked fine)
VVT Solenoid (and gasket 3 times)
VVT Solenoid Terminal and Wiring
Cam Position Sensor (Exhaust)
(2) Oil Changes with filter
In my possession I have a working copy of VIDA and a legit DICE unit that I can diag with. How do I confirm timing via VIDA? If timing is indeed okay, what the heck can I do to resolve this P0014?
Thanks!
Persistent P0014 Code

See my thread on ECM 644A, probably will show below in ‘ related threads’

You seem to have checked one of the 2-3 issues that are known to cause this code.
VVT soleniod is another as well as a clogged or leaking VVT valve or gasket.
Then there is the Crank sensor and cam sensor.

in vida, select diagnostics, click on ecm in the drawing of the car with module locations, in the parameters drop down menu find your way to cam solenoid, it shows a sketch of the solenoid, click on the sketch to open the real time test menu.SoCalV70T5 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 00:04 2001 Volvo V70 T5 M56. 140,000 miles. follow the vida directions to test solenoid reaction, it will ask you to run the engine at certain rpms and give you the test result.
possible causes.
if the solenoid is reacting too slow it will set the code, , wrong oil, dirty filter, clogged pickup, low oil level, blocked oil pan O rings etc.
I had the wrong oil.
that got rid of a persistent ecm 644A.

I entirely replaced the VVT solenoid with a new unit from FCP Euro. Re-wired it too. Replaced the gasket a couple times. Was never clogged whenever I did so.scot850 wrote: ↑02 Dec 2023, 19:19 Similar question on P80 thread:

Cam position sensor was replaced. Car runs smoother with new sensor but as of today still threw code after confirming physical timing is OK.
Can't imagine crank sensor would be affecting cam timing but I guess it could be reading the wrong time and throwing a code?

The VVT have to be within onectooth, with the VVT unit clocked correctly to get the valve timing right. It’s not just lining up the marks

With the system saying the timing is over-advanced, would you wager I should retard both cam gears by one tooth and then see if it throws a code?

Turns out the problem was the wiring to the solenoid. I had to separate it from the rest of the engine harness and re-splice it. Fully fixed. Was able to smog the car and get it registered today.
