FUYAO Windshield

Post by 02V70 »

I just got my windshield replaced by safelite because it had a giant crack. While driving home on somewhat bumpy paved road, I heard rattling from the edges of the windshield that almost sounded like rain falling on it. Will this go away when it fully dries?

I also noticed that the dashboard is reflecting on the windshield. Is this just because it is new and clean?

While inspecting for distortion while driving, I noticed the rightmost 2 inches of the edge seemed a little distorted, but its not that noticeable since I don't often look there. Should I be concerned about this?

The brand of replacement windshield is Fuyao. Is it known to be good/bad quality? I'm pretty sure the previous windshield was pilkington.

I've got a FUYAO, I don't think they're any good, Chinese windshield. All these windshield shops put in Chinese windshield now though of some brand or other that you wouldn't recognize the name of. The Pilkington you had may have been original or the PO was very particular, they are OEM and very good! The other common brand of good windshield is LOF and comes new in many North American cars. I priced a Pilkington about 5 years ago and they wanted about $600 without installation. The creaking should stop after it cures, if not take it back to the shop, maybe its an A-pillar incorrectly installed or something like that, Satellite is a good company and should take care of any issues.

Had one in my wife’s Nissan Rogue with no issue. Agree to take it back if noise continues.

Fuyao is a big company, building some glass in USA.

Can I have safelite install a better one, or will the insurance not comply?

Regardless of insurance Satellite should replace it. The sooner you approach them the better. Even if they want you to wait it's on record, via email, you are experiencing a problem with the new glass.

Could be a warped glass bumping against the body or the laminate layer not glue properly allowing the glass to flex with the sun or temp change.
.
Blessings,

I spoke to my local glass company about a year ago when a friend was looking for a replacement windshield. We go through a lot of windshields in Canada, and particularly here in Alberta due to the cold and use of small rocks on the roads in winter. Lots of ships and cracks. Heck, we have to pay almost the same cost as a new aftermarket windshield if we want a windshield insurance cover!

What my local company told me is most manufacturers, even the German ones, mostly use Chinese manufactures windshields as that is about all that is available now. Some are good, some are bad. The Toyota I bought from a dealer had an aftermarket windshield fitted by the dealer. I took it back as there was distortion around parts of the view-lines. They replaced it as they agreed it was bad.

Over the years I have used mainly PPG and OE glass only as they seemed to be the best. For P80's PPG is no longer an option, only Chinese or OE.

Your windshield should not creak. There is an issue if you slam doors on the car before the sealant cures fully that you can push the windshield off the sealant. Did they tape the glass in and tell you to leave the windows open slightly?

I would suggest the issue you have is due to poor installation.

Neil.

It does not creak anymore. Seems it just happened before the glue dried.

Now it comes back to the optical distortion of the glass. If you can live with it you are likely good, if you feel any distortion bothers you—head back to Safelite for a discussion.
