Which timing belt to buy for t5 SE B5234T3 ?

Post by tersfilozof »

I bought a 1998 T5 SE. it’s automatic 2.3l 176kw.

There are many kits and shops say they don’t have suitable one for my car. So do you know which one should I go? I’m all lost. I live in europe I’m open recommendations from anywhere.

Production date is 10.06.1997

Hello, can you buy from Skandix, perhaps in Germany?

If so, you could order one of these kits. I would also consider changing out the water pump at the same time.

Good luck!

Yes, Germany to Poland seems like a way better idea, simpler shipping.

The Volvo OE supplier of water pumps was Aisin. Not sure who INA use in their kit. Water pumps are something to be careful with in terms of supplier as aftermarket ones have been known to fail early and when they do they seize or leak and worst case cause timing belt issues and engine failures (valve damage).

INA were the OE supplier of pulley wheels.

I should add that I recall Skandix use a Vin# search for parts so that may help you. Should ask if your car has air conditioning?

Neil.

One of the members here, posting as abscate, just lost his engine to a brand new INA brand idler bearing. If this is a car you intend to drive for a number of years, the suggestion is to only use original Volvo timing belt components.
Some retailers here show 9180954 to be the part number up to an engine serial number above yours.
I agree with the others, a supplier in Europe such as Skandix would be best for shipping options.

Aisin or Hepu water pumps seem to have a good reputation, but only use the Volvo gasket, 30677767, no matter what comes with the pump.

Depending on the number of km the car has, and if the tensioner is dry and compresses (slowly!) OK, some folks reuse it.

And just in case you haven't dug too deeply into the Forum yet, please avoid anything sold by a company called URO. They specialize in selling boxes of nawóz koński.
