first thing I did when I bought my car was change everything, belt, water pump , belt tensioner etc.
Also changed the accessory belt and tensioner.

And the tensioner is often the failure point, even if the belt still looks good.

I checked the year of manufacture on the timing belt label after I purchased the car to make sure it had been changed and to schedule the next one.

Timing belt gear on the P80 and P2 platforms is good quality and robust if you use OE parts, not parts from eBay , Amazon, or cheap online vendors

They last 150-200k miles.

If you buy a used car, and no have documentation of the belt, idler, and tensioner being done, plan on doing the job in the next 5000 miles or so. No reason to not drive the car in the meantime.
