4 quarts of the Shell vs 5 quarts of Mobil One at Wallymart for essentially the same price. Wonder if it's worth the difference.

Probably not.

With the rebate the T6 is $15 for 4 quarts. You can get 16 quarts (4 gallons) per year at the rebate price; the rebate has been rolled over the last two years. Trying to get us hooked, no doubt.

That (as you pointed out earlier) is tough to beat.

They sell it on Amazon for just under $20 (free shipping, but you pay tax).
I can get 5 quarts of Mobil-1 for $22...free shipping too and pay tax but it gets here like in 2 days!
Btw, our cars take approx. 6 quarts.
This is what I used- also never had any oil related issues with this oil!

I was in Advance Auto today and saw the 0W-40 T6 for the first time. I asked the guy if they had just come out with it and his response killed me, "no, we have had it for a long time it was just in the back". I would have been using it all along had I known they made it...

Search on "bobistheoilguy.com". They have a lot of good things to say about it. I run it in my '90 240, and use German Castrol in the V70.
I know i am reviving an old thread but i would like to ear how is your rotella oil experience with 3.2 engine after years of use

Stay away from 0w-40. I'm running 10W-60 right now. The engine purrs, and there is less oil starvation on track days.

Motor oil is a chemical witches brew, not just oil. Most petrochemical industry scientists advise against using diesel balanced oil in a gasoline engine. The additive packages have different specific levels of zinc and phosphorus, which may preclude Rotella from being certified for use in gasoline engines. All of the chemicals in motor oil in the States had their concentration levels changed by regulation a few years ago. Things may be different elsewhere in the world.
In my part of the country full synthetic gasoline rated motor oil is less expensive than diesel engine oil.
Here is an older thread over on Bobs posted by a Shell petrochemical engineer:

Rotella T6 5w-40 is currently 1,150 ppm phosphorous (http://www.pqiamerica.com/June%202014/s ... ellat6.htm), higher than the recommended passenger car standard of 800 ppm maximum. The max for diesel oils is 1,250 ppm. Phosphorous is an anti-wear additive for the engine, but a drawback is high phosphorous levels may damage some catalytic converters.

Shell does make a low-phosphorous version of T6, but only in 5w-30, called "Shell Rotella® T6 Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic" with phosphorous.

I'm still using Rotella T6 5w-40 in all my Volvos. Haven't killed a cat yet but we'll see!

FYI Rotella T6 is still pretty cheap if you buy in quantity and use their rebate program https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/promos- ... S9PMjU2Ny8

,
Started using Rotella T6 15W40 in the 00 S70 SE NA due to the ticking problem from the oil pan O-ring. Engine is smoother but the prior Mobil Delvac Dino 15W40, sold at Costco for many years (no more) worked better, meaning stopped the noise altogether. Have the Rotella T6 15W40 in the 2002 V70 XC at this time. Replaced last week so far so good. Will see if it's too cold for winter this year.
.
Blessings,

BKM
