If you try to rebuild the pump, clean the pump before disassembly and keep everything very clean. Not just engine part replacement clean, but super clean.

I think one of them used to be a different p/n decades ago, but was superseded by 4 identical ones.

This seems to be getting more complicated and confusing. I read this viewtopic.php?t=17902 for correct rack. Of course I already bought this rack https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 7388&jsn=9 without knowing if it was a CAM/TRW or SMI so possibly too late. My product code is a 5, therefore requires SMI. However, I called BBB industries (mfr of the rack) and they said SMI is NLA (on market) and is superseded by CAM/TRW which is fully compatible with SMI applications. Can someone please clear this up for me?

BTW I bought this unit on clearance for $112+shipping=$150, no core

Edit1: I found this after I found the VOLVO logo and the part number 34010753 LH. It specifies both TRW and SMI. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/34010753lh

Edit2: LOL after 2 hours of looking on the unit and searching the internet, I finally found TRW in small letters on the side underneath the VOLVO logo.

Since at least the mid 1970's Volvo has used multiple suppliers for brake and steering components.

I've used the Edelmann kit and it seems to be working well enough. I would disassemble the pump first because it the vanes are broken or the body is too heavily scarred then it's a tosser. Be warned that the pump body is spring loaded against the retaining lock ring. Also, carefully note the position of the end plates and body in relation to the housing as the assembly floats on two dowel pins and is designed to rotate a few degrees. Take pictures and don't confuse which end plate goes where or which way they face. Otherwise an easy, straightforward job.
