Driver side door lock issue 1997 850 T-5

Hello everyone,

I have recently acquired a Volvo 850 T-5 1997. The issue that slightly annoys me ever since then is the driver side’s lock. I didn’t get a remote key fob, so I use the manual key to open. However the key button pops up very weak and I usually need to juggle the fob to the left twice to actually keep the lock as unlocked position. I think the lock mechanism seems to be weak, I haven’t opened the door panel yet so I wondered if any of you all had a similar experience. I couldn’t find one yet.

The only way to find out the issue for your car is to remove the inner door cover and have a look. There are parts that wear and eventually break in the door actuator. There may also be a loose or worn lever for the door lock mechanism.

Mine acts similarly if i understood the central locking pops it back open when try lock.. need open and clean it. 2 years and counting not yet done.

The pooping open again is due to the actuator being broken. Often on the passenger side or rears when people try opening the door while it is still unlocking. It breaks a small plastic piece internally.
