Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
Hoping I got to the bottom of the EVAP codes on the kids 05 XC90. This hose look gone to anyone? I think the Brits refer to this as manky.
All new fitted.
Just for the Oetiker fans.

On the topic of EVAP, I have the BI-FUEL NA engine, which means my gas tank is not the same gas tank fitted on other Volvos, it is of a smaller capacity. The biggest problem I have with it, is there is supposed to be a hole that allows air to recirculate when filling up the tank. Mine is possibly plugged which results in inconsistent gas filling. Either a very strong vacuum forms when filling or it cuts out a few liters before being fully filled. I have legit had times I could not pull out the nozzle from the hole. If anyone has clues how to clean out the hole I would be happy to be informed.
I have nearly received my Lubeguard, any day now. Unfortunately I have noticed more....erratic shifting so maybe I am at the late stages already of a failing gearbox. For instance when overtaking, the car is at a lower gear, high rpm, usually before when I let go of the gas pedal the car would upshift almost immediately. Now it takes a bit longer. For instance it likes to stay in 4th gear longer before shifting into 5th. This is not the behaviour it had just 2 or 3 months ago. Gearbox temps also rise too easily, compared to just a year ago. There is a small minuscule chance it is the work of the ETM or Accelerator pedal. The idea here is for Lubeguard to extend the life of the gearbox a bit longer.
I am kind of afraid if I will find any metal debris when I remove the gearbox oil plug.

Possible to flip to manual mode to shift when on the highway?
On the fueling some pumps are more sensitive than others too, will click off early before the tank is full. If you have a regular station and can find a common pump that works stick with it.
No help for you on the vent, maybe see if the parts fiche can give an idea where it might be?

My autobox does not have manual mode, and furthermore it is even software disabled(does not exist in the firmware).
I drained 1l today to check its color and consistency and filled 1l of Ravenol. It is almost like before(I know, it doesn't look as good as it should after 30l drain and fills). In total I have done around 30 or more liters with drain and fills since i began my journey with this gearbox. As soon as I get my lubeguard today or tomorrow I will drain 3l and fill with more Ravenol and possible the whole bottle of Lubeguard(once I read the instructions)
Addendum: My lubeguard has arrived. I will pick it up today and if I have the time, will do the final drain and fill. I have 2l left from the Ravenol and 1l left from Mannol 3309. The drain and fill of 1l from Ravenol will be slightly wasted, but I had to do it to check overall oil quality.
In total: 2l of Ravenol T-iV left, ~1l of Mannol and 296ml of Lubeguard Platinum(contains both HFM and Red anti-wear in one). It may be less potent than pure HFM, so if necessary I may order a pure Lubeguard HFM.
However, I will do something no one has done before. I will backup my Adaptations to compare later. I will change oil and add Lubeguard, dump adaptations. I will drive the car, then once shifts get better or worse I will dump the adaptations again and compare to see which have changed. Once I can narrow it down which adaptation has significantly deviated to compensate, I will try altering it in-memory to modify shift behaviour.
Addendum 2: I have received the Lubeguard, however I must wait a few hours for the gearbox to cool off. In the meantime I am writing my custom adaptation dumper.
addendum 3: I drained 2.3l of old fluid and filled 2l of Ravenol like originally and 230-240ml of Lubeguard Platinum. I left just a bit in the bottle in case I need to or feel the need to add more. I drove only short distances and there was improvement for sure, softer shifts. I did before and after dumps of the adaptations(before and after clearing the oil degradation counters) and after driving 2 and then another 2km. I have not yet done any diffing to see if there are any changes just yet. Where I did not notice an improvement was upshift time when I suddenly let go of the gas pedal, it still takes a tad longer than normal and a tad longer than before.
Soon I will drive a bit longer distance and will see what will happen with the gearbox. I did feel like suddenly for a brief moment had some shudder where I had none before but we will see, it's not like the road was flat.
Addendum 4: As expected the transmission re-adapted and the shifts became harsh again, not as harsh as before, but not as good as they were pre-adaptation. The TCC slip in Slip Lockup mode is still there so not cured. Slightly better acceleration, I think. Luckily as I mentioned elsewhere I have backed up the previous adaptations to compare.

did you check and clear the breather hose , the air in the tank has to go someplace.dikidera wrote: ↑19 Jun 2024, 02:31 On the topic of EVAP, I have the BI-FUEL NA engine, which means my gas tank is not the same gas tank fitted on other Volvos, it is of a smaller capacity. it runs next to the fill hose in gas cars.
maybe try a vacuum pump , see what comes out.

being nervous about the tranny, if you're driving is a bit more cautious it will shift like that, mine does.
it upshifts quicker when i get aggresive on the pedal.

I finished installing a new center console lid cover. It took forever and I would do a few things differently next time, like using different glue. Not perfect, but worlds better looking than before.
