Erratic trip computer mileage

Post by dillawc »

The cumulative fuel mileage function of my 2001 V70 T5 does not change in 0.1 MPG units. For instance, when highway cruising, the average MPG might read 26.2, then as the mileage changes as I continue driving, it will jump to 25.7 or 26.5, but not 26.3 or 26.1 as the MPG reading in my 1995 850 Turbo does. It has done this since new, but I've never asked my dealer as I think they would probably just tell me it's "normal". Is this normal or should I have my dealer replace the trip computer? The car is still under waranty. Thanks.

In warrenty - take it to the dealer. If it happens after they "fix" it, take it back. If they cannot duplicate or give the "no problem found" (NPF) make sure they log the issue.

Once the warrenty is over it is your problem unless you can show a history of the problem while in warrenty.

'96 854 - died an early death with 184K miles. Killed by the front end of an LTD on a suicide mission (T-boned and both cars totaled).
