Sorry for delay, life including a new job has gotten in the way. I'm very impressed. Any chance you share / sell your software?
I don't know how to get the "tune" in and out of the ECU without opening it and soldering, which I can do, but it seems inelegant.
I've used a few tuning softwares, mostly "TunerPro" for US cars (Chevy) with good results, although there are many "unknown" entries in the parameters, and that worries me. But that's a different thing altogether. Every mess with TunerPro?

Also late reply, but I didn't get a notification for the thread. I have not used Tuner Pro I just used the Demo version of the latest Win OLS. With the demo version I cannot save my changed files, but not an issue just more of a hassle.
You have an S40 T5 which I think uses Bosch and not denso, the NA version of S40 uses Denso, but the SH7058 variant which is different than my SH7055.

A 2° increase in ignition advance by itself usually won't account for an 18 hp gain on a naturally aspirated 2.4L engine. On most engines, that kind of change might be worth a few horsepower if the factory tune is conservative and the engine can tolerate the extra timing without knock. I'd be interested to see your logs before and after the change, especially ignition timing, knock correction, AFR, and intake air temperatures. The real question is whether the Denso table values are direct timing values or if there's a scaling factor involved, as that could make the actual advance change quite different from what the map appears to show.Whats the result pls

My logs will unfortunately show that the knock sensor is pulling 5-13 degrees of timing. Basically, any ignition advance I added didn't do anything because of some underlying issue(presumably; it could be normal behaviour). I currently do run a custom tuned map(s).
For future users, either message me or tag me, I do not frequent this board. Also B5244S/S2/SG/SG2 engines use the older Denso ECU, the newer engines, S4, S5 etc use the newer SH7058 and different ECU logic/maps.
I've also discovered for S/S2/SG/SG2 ECUs that there is a special map that highly retards the engine when you mash the pedal. Some kind of protection that IS NOT torque protection for gearbox.
