94 940 no brake lights or c/c????
Well its been awhile since I have had any problems with my 94 940. This newest problem has me complexed. I dont have any brake lights? The fuse is ok but I dont have power to the brake switch? I ran a hot lead to the brake switch and still no lights. I did get some clicking out of a blue silinoid(9130270) in the fuse panel. When I removed the silinoid to inspect it and the car would not start. I put it back in and the car fires right back up? Also I notice that the cruise is not working so whatever it is they must be linked somehow. Anyone have any ideas or areas were I should look? Any help is very much appreaited. Thx

On the attached picture of the 940 fuse/relay board which relay did you remove? The number and colour you quoted points to relay F which is for the front fog lamps and should not have had any effect on the starting of the car.

When you tested for power at the brake light switch did you test at the input (green/yellow) or the output (yellow/brown)?
Bill.

Bill, thanks for the reply. The relay in question is actually"M". On the list it sayes its for "fog lamps(rear)"? Im not aware of any rear fog lamps. LOL. Also, the leads going to the brake switch are orange and blk and white and blk and I checked both. Any ideas? Thx
Ok after some messing I found the gr/br and y/br wires that Bill was refering to. I have power going into the switch and coming out of the switch when the pedal is depressed. The only thing I did different was removed the "bulb failure relay" and reinstalled it. I still am not getting brake lights to the back of the car though? Any ideas? Im dumbfounded. Thx
I appoligize for the mixup I must have been messing with the cruise control swith which has the or/blk and the w/blk wires. I should have known because of the vacume line coming off the switch. Hopefully Im heading in the right dirrection now. Thx

When you first posted I immediately thought of the bulb failure warning relay as this is the next step from the brake light switch. You threw me when you said that you had no power to or from the switch.
You can run a bypass wire from the out portion of the switch direct to one of the brake lights and see if that works (a long wire I know but the easiest way of doing it). However, before you do that check for 12 volts at the bulb connectors just in case you have bad bulbs/connections.
Looking at the wiring diagram the cruise control is linked to the brake light switch but I can't see, yet, how it would affect the cruise.
With regard to the relays I have looked at a different 940 relay listing and, apparently, there were some differences in certain models. Relay M on some models is blue with the number 9130270 and it is for the fuel injection circuit. That is why your car would not start when you pulled it out. It should click.

Thanks a ton Bill for all the help. I did as you said and tried a light tester at the bulb junction with no results. There has to be something in between the two? I did check the brake light fuse and I have power to both sides of it.
I hooked the cruise leads back up thinking that would fix my cruise problem but that didnt work. Im still messing with that as well. One thing at a time and the brake light are more important. I will try running a lead back to the back and see if that gets them working. Thanks Agian.
