Are P2 fuel tanks steel or plastic?

I am trying to help a new Volvo friend locally with a fuel leaking issue on the tank of his 02 S60 2.4T. I have never really worked on the fuel system on a P2 so have never looked at the fuel tank. I knew that CA wagons had metal fuel tanks but based on my P80 experience assumed all P2's would be plastic like them.

The owner is convinced the tank is steel. Can anyone confirm what an S60 tank is made of?

Different according to emissions requirements of the States. Several States require the low emissions of the steel one.

Hm. That is not going to make it easy!? I knew about the CA requirement, but this is a Canadian car, so no idea what they were fitted with. Now I will have to go look at both the XC70's in the garage..............

S60's on the other hand, I have no idea.

Maybe get the VIN and try the decoder tool, or VIDA?

My 2005 V70 was a VA registered car and has the low emissions steel tank. PEM lives on top of the tank.

I have not looked what the 02 XC70 has, but the 06 XC70 the PEM is in the trunk.
