1986 245 DL Ignition control unit question

Post by LBC28704 »

I've got a 1986 240 Dl that I have been diagnosing a crank no-start condition.

B230F, Bosch LH Jetronic 2.2

Replaced the coil after finding the one on there with 3.8ohm at terminals 1 & 15 and 36000 at 1 and center terminal.
Bentley calls for 1.1-1.3 @ 1 & 15 and 9600-11600 at 1 & center terminal.

The replacement is 1.4 & 9500, I thought that small variance could absolutely just be due to my fairly cheap multimeter.

This didn't work.

Coil lead is 2500ohm which seems to be in spec.

I back probed the connecter at the ignition control unit and had battery voltage at #2 as well as continuity at #10, which is in spec.

I get 12v at coil #15 with the ignition on.

Vacuum hose on Ignition control unit is new.

I have 12v at hall sensor "a" with ignition on.

This seems to me that the issue has to be in the ignition control unit.

Can someone confirm this for me?

Thank you!

Have you checked for spark from the coil wire to ground or using a timing light on the coil wire?
Do you have a manual with test information and schematic?
Hall sensors can fail.

These ignition control units are very reliable.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tested the hall sensor as per the procedures in the Bentley manual and it appears to be good.

Also, I did the test that involves intermittently jumping A & B on the hall sensor plug and this did not produce a spark.

Bentley manual is very good tool. Follow their test procedure.

From their procedures it seems the control unit is suspect.
I'm thinking about testing the hall sensor with a lab scope, just to be 100% sure.
