For today, the clutch, pressure plate and transmission are now installed! Cables in place and shifter installed.
Question about the clutch cables coming out of the firewall, do they pass to the left or right of the steering column as you are looking at the firewall?
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

Nicely done! I can't remember exactly, but you may be able to catch a glimpse of where the cables are routed in relation to the steering column in one of Robert's latest videos hereNC855R wrote: ↑17 Nov 2024, 17:50 For today, the clutch, pressure plate and transmission are now installed! When I Google "stilsons" I get normal looking pipe wrenches. Is that what you mean, or something else?scot850 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2024, 17:14 3) The bush removal. Now this is where the fun started. Tool attacked, but when torqued the bad design has the slider block sitting on the bush metal sleeve. This forces the tool downwards and bends the pins. To prevent that, out came the 30" long pipe pliers (in the UK we called then Stilsons), but these were my grandfathers which he bought in the 1960's in Denmark. You can clamp these with a pull lever and this locked the Volvo tool to the bush. After a lot of pulling and a little chisel action the bush came out.

Something else. It does the same job but a Scandinavian variant (Probably Swedish!). I'll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow and post back here.

I'm doing a mod to my 850, installing a secondary washer pump in series with the original. I've done it to other cars and really think it improves the washers. I am dependant on good washers this time of year. While I was working on where to put the pump (found a nice spot behind the front right headlight):

I noticed that a line that was not connected. I reconnected it but I cannot tell what it does. It's the 3rd line with the small hose clamp next to the other two lines that are not supposed to be hooked up to anything.

Anyone know what it does?

I'm looking forward to hearing more. The washers on my 850 could use a lot of improvement. I keep intending to go through the system, but never seem to make it a priority. The system on my S70 was fantastic. It's not just a matter of nozzles.DennisCA wrote: ↑18 Nov 2024, 03:37 I'm doing a mod to my 850, installing a secondary washer pump in series with the original. What I really do need to do soon is pump out the existing fluid, and replace it with something that won't freeze. I need to come up with some sort of pump to do so.

Fit P2 washer nozzles for the windshield. They give a much better spray coverage than P80 ones.
Wagons have 2 vents. One for front pump and one for rear.

With regard to the 'Stilson' question. Here are pictures of the Swedish (better) equivalent:
While I own what is considered the 'Stilson' style pipe wrench, I always preferred these as they are just easier to work with and adjust. You can also clamp down with the jaws like on pipe pliers. These are at lease 60-70 years old and still work as designed!

Those Swedish pipe wrenches are a life saver. Harbor Freight carries them in their Icon brand now, and while they're okay, the fast adjustment button SUCKS. Lets them slip way too easily. Bahco is top tier for those.
