There's also some truth to the mantra that "they thrive on abuse". Often I'll really do a huge job detailing my car or bolting on some really nice new blue box parts, only to have some random failure shortly after that I have to figure out and fix. My particular car really hates being babied!

Or it is like in the ancient old says. With old TV's when they broke you got them fixed, only for the next part in the chain to fail as the new part was now healthy which put a strain on the next old part. It failed, you replaced that then shortly after the next part failed. By the time you figured that all out you could have bought a new one for less!!

Mine wasn't neglected at all. Still, it started to fall apart after 150k miles. I basically had to rebuild/replace most of the car between 150k and 220k. Same things broke at about same age/mileage in two other P2 wagons I've had.
The only exception was FWD N/A V70. This one had zero issues with AWD system and turbocharging =)
2016 XC60 with B5254T12 engine started to show major problems before 50k miles, so it was dumped. P3 journey was not good at all.

Same for me with the P80's. The base models with NA motors and FWD. Even an SE spec cars, a bit plusher but not much in the way of extra gizmos to go wrong.

And now more repairs!
Front wheel bearings got done yesterday and today (only had the car an owner to help starting late afternoon).
Checked the RHF axle carrier bearing for condition as well as bearing sizing. I have ordered a couple of spares and can confirm the sizing is he same as the P80 and I believe the P3 too. FCP sells this bearing by Febi Bilstein for about $20 US.
We also ordered the lower control arms and ball-joints as well as the forward bush for the trailing arms that are worn. That will be a Christmas break project.
Took a bit more of a look at the lack of low beam headlights. Still not found the issue. Hopefully we can try replacing the shunt/relay on the weekend as possibly the crank position sensor to see if that is what is throwing the P0016 code. Thankfully the O2 code is out now but a new one has appeared. P0456 - small emissions leak. I have now replaced the fuel cap seal which is badly cracked. Code is off for now.
I want to Vida on the car possibly this weekend to see what other hidden errors may be lurking.

Oh, deer, oh deer.............! Pun intended!
Got a text from the owner later on last night. Unusual and hoping it was not the temp fix for the crank sensor mount had failed.
Nope, probably worse. On his way home on a busy open road through the city a deer leapt out in front of him and he hit it!
I won't know until I see the car itself, but a bumper cover will be needed at the least. Hopefully nothing under it is damaged. If that is all that got broken (it is cracked) then as we were planning to remove the bumper to get to the headlights to repair the harnesses and fit headlight wiper arms. Bumpers are not too terrible to remove. Hopefully there is a correct color and age of bumper in the junkyards, but weather is getting colder now (below 0C daytime).

Where did you source your fuel cap seal?scot850 wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 23:50 And now more repairs!

IPD has a couple of options:
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/21309/H ... 7?crumbs=0
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/8818/Fu ... vo-6842302
I just got the cheaper version more as an emergency stop gap, but then who knows how long they may last??
