Look closely at the 2 connectors. The one in your picture closet to #1 has a raised notch on the connector that lines up with the slot in the relay. #2 does not. #2 if I recall plugs in down the side of the back of the radiator.

@abscate thank you, will wait patiently. I am trying to figure out a non running fan. I directly powered the fan from battery and it turned. Then I individually grounded the pins in the middle port of relay that are associated with the yellow and yellow/white wires and the fan turned at different speeds depending on which pin I grounded. Does this mean fan and relay are good?

I'm with Dr. Abscate, those moldex plugs only go into one port on the relay, look carefully at the pin location and the nubs on the plug.Bigbishop wrote: ↑26 Dec 2024, 08:23 @abscate thank you, will wait patiently. And yes, if the fan powers up with direct wiring, that is diagnostic.

@abscate Thank you for the information. At what temperature does cooling fan kick in? I observed temperature on a scan tool go up to 103 degrees but fan did not kick in. Should I have observed for longer?

Often not until 105 C. I documented this once sitting in a line for US Canada border

The fan is also controlled by the coolant temperature sensor. Check it is operating normally, then also check the wiring at the connector mounted near the back of the power steering pump. This corrodes with age and wires become brittle as does the connector.

@abscate Oh my oh my! So going by your advice, I waited past 103 C and at 105 C I heard that sweet sound of fan kicking in. Thank you so much. Seemed I worried too early
Thanks to @scot850 and @foggydogg too for helping out.
