My volvo wanted to remind me it has needs last night. Went to start it up and was left with a crank and no start for a bit. Plugged in my code scanner and saw codes across the car, specifically:
Enging:
A code related to the exhaust cam rpm: said error in signal
something related to engine speed
ECC:
LIN bus errors, signal errors, and some others (4 codes total)
The temperature had swung from about 15C to -5C so i did the logical thing. Cleared the codes, tried to start it again. She fired up and drove normally for the rest of the night. If it happens again then ill make a formal post, but for now i think the car is just trying to keep me honest.
Helped a family member a few days back by changing the sparkplugs on a honda pilot from the 2012-15 era. It showed me the advantage of having an inline engine for maintenance. Have to eventually get axles sorted on that car as the rear one somehow sheared at the joint and the front run is making a ruckus.
My 08 S60 will need a new wheel bearing and oil change, the when of that is tbd. In my packing i foolishly left my volvo engine oil filter at a friends place. Now i need to find time to get it to complete the oil change. Im at 10k km on penzoil ultra plat with mainly highway driving. Oil still looks good, but i like keeping this car happy with its fluids.
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Yesterday, I replaced the thermostat on my 2001 V70 T5. It was not warming to the middle of the temperature gauge. The housing bolts were not stuck. I predrained about 2 quarts of coolant and the job took about 1 hour not including coolant refill. It not warms to the center of the gauge.
Recently, I replaced all tires with Firestone Weathergrip tires. I like the tires, but MPG seems to have dropped from 28 to about 26. This was compared on the same highway trip after warmup. I guess minimum tread tires are really good for mileage.

I corrected tires to Weathergrip.

Today I found something you wouldn't believe, a $200 ETM with a manufacturing date of 2020 bought from a Volvo dealer, basically it should be the contactless version. I think this beats the $100 SACER sensor and DYI approach.
I am hoping, and this is the only reason I am even buying it, is that it will solve my misfires. If my misfires are not solved...I am at a loss. I even contacted Xemodex, and they feel like I have an ECM issue rather than ETM, but I will try.

Almost had a second crank but no start situation in two days. Got the car started but wanted to sort out the problem. Turned it off and tried to start it again and it was struggling a bit. I had a spare PEM in the trunk so i swapped it and the car seems to start up on point every time.
Debating if i should have my family member drive this car with 290k km and decent maintenance history, or an 09 sonata with 190k km and ny perfect maintenance (based on records). My car needs a wheel bearing and the sonata has an exhaust leak.

I received my 2020 model ETM today. I figured it might need a software update, but tried anyhow. As expected everything went haywire.
A software update is likely required. As for how I will achieve it, I still do not know. But at the very least it's in my hands now.
I don't think it can be programmed in-car, because it was spazzing seriously.

As it had snowed all day, I took a 40 minutes walk to pick up my recently purchased black 2006 Volvo V70 from the vehicle finisher.
I asked them to clean the complete interior, including an ozone treatment. It now looks nearly like straight from the factory!

Dikidera, have you tried to reach out to Doublebug or likes on MVS who may be able to help with remote programming or cloning?
