They are Meyle. I would imagine that more originals are broken without people even knowing it, honestly.

In this group, people would notice, but I bet a lot go unnoticed. I could sense something was up when I drove the car, however so slight, but there was no noise, unlike the other two cars. A failed Deltalink bushing is more noticeable.

I think it's more of a dissimilar metals/corrosion thing, and I'm going to wager that the "Volvo" branded ones aren't any better these days.

I'm not super concerned, and I've had decent enough luck with the Meyle stuff

My buddies 99 which spent a large chunk of it's life in British Columbia (little use of salt on the roads) still has it originals. Even the bolts loosened recently when we discover one bolt was missing from one of the adjusters. On the other hand, my previously owned 2000 V70 base had one that cracked right through about 9 years ago but is from a rust area with a great amount of salt on the roads.

I agree that many parts are now poor quality, even blue box are possibly questionable. I guess they will either be ancient NOS parts or recent China made parts that are so variable in quality.

Good to know they need to be watched out for on FWD cars.

Very true, I feel like they're just a lesser known/thought about part that needs to be replaced. Probably many more that are bad without the owner realizing it.

After I put it all back together, I wondered if some sort of sealant/coating on the seams between the AL and the steel bushing shells would help with reducing the creep of the moisture/corrosion between the two. That's what causes the failure.

I've often thought about using anti-seize on the bolts to see what happens. Even a very thin film of PPF under the nut and bolt to prevent direst contact between the dis-similar materials, especially in rust prone areas.

I'm more talking about that seam where the bushing is pressed into the AL housing. All of the bolt interfaces were completely fine. These are popping the AL housing apart with the corrosion between the bushing shell and the housing. It's a press-fit, but obviously not 100% contact. There will be water ingress there.

I see what you're talking about, and maybe the anti-seize could help seal the flat faces where the bolts are, etc.

170 days since Val the Volvo was last run and with spring in the air and the weather a little warmer it's time to start getting her ready for the summer ahead. Today I started her for the first time since 19th September last year and she fired straight up. After a few seconds there was a little bit of belt chirp which had gone by the time I drove her out the garage.

I drove her out the garage to let her warm up a bit to allow me to drain the oil

While waiting on the oil warming I checked the A/C was still working

On the ramp and oil draining for an hour before refilling
