04 S60 - Windshield Washer Pump Always on with wipers

Post by br0dy519 »

As per title. Found a fun new gremlin on the S60 today. Intermittent right now but bound to get worse.

Every time my wipers are engaged, the pump is running. Doesn't matter what speed setting. I've read it can actually be a bad headlight washer motor causing this. Any truth?

Need to look at the wiring diagram to begin troubleshooting, just shooting it out there to see if anyone else had this. My guess is a bad stalk possibly just need to isolate and begin troubleshooting.

Probably a stalk issue.
Get a good used stalk from junk yard.
It is a 10-min swap and see what happens.

Solved!

Mine and @cn90 's hunches were correct. Stalk was the issue. Followed this video and cleaned contacts on the stalk's control board. Appears grease inside with the little slider can gum up the control board contacts. Easy peasy 15 minute and FREE repair. Did the turn signal stalk as well since I had everything apart. Just used 99% Iso alcohol and a white eraser.

I purchased a used unit from Erie scrapyard and installed this afternoon, 15 minute job and it resolved the issue.
Thanks to everyone for the help. It will be nice to have wiper delay for sure.
