That is part of standard installation along with brackets. I'm not quite brave enough to go tape alone. ;-)

Turns out he has a store front on his webpage and had those brackets. $45 for 2 including shipping which is pretty good compared VIVA new ones for $90 or so. Now I just need the right size screws which he lists the Volvo part number.

Replaced the plastic thing at the front with a non broken one. Hood now opens on the first pull of the level, a very welcome improvement.

(despite the looks, this is not a Rolls royce  )

Then got unto the front brakes because I'm tired of them absolutely screaming at low speed. Found two small pebbles in the piston boot and pads with a lip. Chamfered the pads, back together with grease where needed, hopefully should be silent now

Did change summer tires and old known guest was found, bad cv boot.

So little time later got to use lift (very nice first time experience this luxury)
20250504_onlift.jpg

So this choice comes that this side was done same time as other side but.. other side has split boot and its still fine. This bad boot was one of those which you pull just over axle. I dont know brand of it as i was just who took axle out and put it back with new boot.

I did then put crimp but.. i got light bulb moment that i have done long time something wrong so i searched right tool and not the one which looks similar.. bingo it has extra smashing hand so did then buy next day right tool for the job. Now looks more like it would work longer and it crimps tighter as a plus too.

Lets look the driver side.. uh oh. Crimp didnt hold (this been pain keep.. the split boot is way too big 80-110mm.. way too big!.. correct size is 80 or 90mm and i used 80 which is 80..89mm which after gluing was tight to put with little expanding. not too much work.. )

.. after picture i did crimp it slightly more still.

As another bonus i found extra metal sheet in my car!

Didnt get it easily so i left there as doesnt rattle.. then in future i deal with it.

Later when better time and inspiration.. engine valve stem seals, belt, heater core etc.

Got some goodies from the scrapyard. A nautic blue door and bumper cover.

Noted that the 99-00 XC70 has a different rear wiper motor from the 98 base model. It is plastic but should still fit the same. Pulled said motor for my own restoration project.

Found some window wind deflectors for 18cad total which was nice.
