‘07 V70 135k Timing belt change intervals

Hello All,
Am seeking perspectives on when to replace timing belt. ‘07 V70 135K. I hope to keep car long term.

Current belt/water pump replaced about 75K ago.

10 years or 110k miles whichever comes first I believe. I am conservative and change it at 100k mark

That number will be in the owners /service manual if its still in the glovebox.

If it has the magic VIN 39 corrected, its 150,000 betweenbelt replacements….

The description below is from the warranty booklet. It says 2009 in this case but it applies to other PZEV years too. It sounds almost too good to be true.

"Model year 2009 vehicles with engine VIN code 39 sold and registered
in California, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode
Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Washington are classified as
Partial Zero Emissions (PZEV) vehicles. PZEV vehicles have a defects
and performance emissions warranty on all emissions components for
fifteen (15) years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first."

The booklet lists everything that is covered and its basically the entire engine and exhaust up to and including the cat (page 33-34). Also covers the entire fuel system and PCV system.

No matter what yr, I'd limit the TB job to 110K-120K interval, no more than that. Tons of info in forum.

The 150K thingy is marketing gimmick. A dangerous marketing plot.

See above. Cars sold to states with CA emissions carry a vin 39 designator that require no maintenance for 150k miles

Two interpretations

1 volvo analyzed the MTBF on the timing components and saw the exposure was low, so warranty was low cost

2 volvo figures that people would time out on years before miles.

My thesis is that timing belts go on miles, not years, based on my extensive sampling of N=1 of my 1999 belt bring changed at 15 years, 143k miles

150K mile timing belt changes is the exact same maintenance specification mindset as "lifetime" transmission fluid. Both are to avoid short term maintenance costs at the expense of the vehicle's total life.

The water pump replacement interval on the p80 model was second timing belt change, or 150k miles.

When the mechanical belt system was installed in late 1998, that period was left the same so now it was 210k miles

I changed my T5 at 250k miles

There is plenty of use case data to support 150k life on these components, especially in milder climates.

When I buy cars for my donor program , I don’t usually change the belt unless there is oil leakage or damage.
