1998 v70 is it possible to remove rear axles permanently ?

So far so good on the stub axles . I got out on the highway and all the weird moaning noises are gone. They were rotational noises I assumed coming from the wheel bearings and are no longer present.

Now whether rear CV axles and or the differential axle bearings were contributing I have no idea. I cant really look at them unless I take the diff out.

I put S70 shocks on in place of the nivomats. I did not buy Tbars I just pushed the sleeves and bushings out of the new shocks and pressed the tbars I had already in . I had some urethane bronco track bar bushings laying about and just clamped them in a vice and took a wood rasp to the outer diameter until they would fit in the eyelet.


I'm sure as several have said I have lost spring capacity but considering both of my nivomats were defective I can't tell any difference . It handles much better because it has functioning shock absorbers now and I think not spinning all that rear axle stuff i'll probably pick up a little mileage.

I probably deleted 50 pounds of weight from the rear between the axles and nivomats that might be helping a little.


Of course I never haul anything with the car so if I put weight in it then not changing springs would be a more obvious issue. I'll drive another week or so then jack it up and take a look for loose bolts or other issues.

I'm going to start searching for parts to do a FWD swap in the next few months but maybe i'll find some backing plates first
