I spoke too soon. The ball joint is ever so slightly leaking now. Third time under the car is a charm eh.

Edit: not sure, but don’t feel any airflow out the ball joint anymore. Seems the flared pipe got a bit crooked during clamping.

I pulled as hard as I could to seat the flared end into the ball joint end, but this was all I could push into.

The drone around 2k rpm is too unbearable for me. After a ride, my ears are hurting.

I’ll install the original muffler again when I have the time for it and try to sell the ferrita.

Thanks for all your advice.

I didn't make a post yesterday, but I got the job completed. I'm a novice at this stuff so I took my sweet time making sure I did everything correctly and with quality.

-New timing belt + tensioner and idler
-New water pump
-New serpentine belt
-New coolant reservoir and level sensor + coolant flush and change as a byproduct

What's next now? I think I mentioned that I need a new serpentine belt tensioner pulley. I need to order some winter tires to put on the old 15" rims my car came with. I also have a box full of parts I have yet to install... I suppose I should do that next lol

Otherwise it seems that the exhaust is too short for the estate, because the tailpipe is very inwards of the bumper.
Hello Chieber, I had a similar problem, mine was also too short.

Can you find an extension or make one? I had to go up one size on the pipe, so I found an adapter that worked.

There’s a oval tailpipe from Simon’s that seems to be 23cm long. This one is only 18cm. So without messing with the exhaust again, I think I’ll try the longer tailpipe first.

How is the sound of your exhaust? I’m kind of disappointed in the ferrita cat back.
With the oem exhaust I had this nice 5 cilinder sound in the cabin.

Now it’s too much bass and droney around 2krpm.
Mine is actually a very generic ANSA exhaust, nothing fancy. It's just a tad louder than the original but still has the typical P80 sound.

Minnesota I assume is a place what salts its roads, so my suggestion is hose down the undercarriage in some thin and penetrating oil, then after it's dried do woolwax or similar over it.

That’s what I want in the sound. Little bit louder but without the bass.
Do you have the part nr for that exhaust? I can’t find an exhaust for the Volvo. Maybe it’s out of production.

So I was wrong, it was a Starla brand exhaust. This is the one I used on 2 of my S70's, but it looks like it is not available right now.
But that might be different in Europe, I don't know.

Indeed it is. I make a point to wash the undercarriage regularly during the winter using the automatic car washes in town. I haven't tried any undercoating yet, not sure if I will on this car tbh. It's already a little crusty underneath since it was a New Jersey and an Ohio car before I bought it. I'm probably just going to continue washing it and driving it until the car is completely worn out. There's no vehicle inspection of any kind in Minnesota so I don't need to worry too much. I will need to do a handful of rust repairs in the future though. The rear exhaust hangar just rusted off so now it looks a little limp back there

It might be worth looking at using Fluid Film protectant. It comes in clear and black, aerosol or 1 gallon can.

I takes a bit of work but will slow down the decay considerably. May need to recoat every couple of years in worst areas.

I checked the tightness of the hose clamps on the short turbo outlet hose (9179002) using a new tool... a 12pt 7mm swivel socket wrench. This little guy fits into the tight spots:
upper clamp on turbo hose
upper clamp on turbo hose
lower clamp on turbo hose
lower clamp on turbo hose
