I'm wondering what springs they use for this conversion? Are they just standard springs for any wagon or are they slightly stiffer to compensate for the loss of the Nivomat which does some of the rear end suspension springing?
They use a regular wagon strut. When I did research for my own AWD P80, essentially the verdict was that the shocks would be replaced with “blues” (denoted by a blue band on the strut) which was the same one used on the S70 AWD models that didn’t come with Nivomats, and I believe they used that for the FWD wagons.
Part is: “Volvo Shock Absorber - Genuine Volvo 9461631”

For the springs, it’s a standard V70 rear spring, and the ride height is determined by the spring seats/mounts.
Part is: “Volvo Coil Spring - Lesjofors 4295858” for the AWD non-nivomat

The important thing to make sure of is that it’s the right kind of strut for the mounting type, as I believe there’s some variations between chassis’. FCP Euro had this infographic available:

This is the only photo I have of the rear spring/strut parts I ordered… maybe they’ll be helpful

Thanks, I did not watch the video by mistake. Sorry. However, if I recall correctly, the lower rubber cup holds the top of the shock and 'cups the domed to of the shock, and the top side then sits in a cup on the top of the inner fender for location, and the top one fits the opposite way inside the car on another cup and the nut fits in the hollow. So this sounds like what you are saying.

That tool will be interesting to know about. I have the Volvo tool for the front and rear P80 AWD shocks, and I think the front one works for the front on P2's as well (not 100% on that). However the rears are different as it the P1 where the oval that holds the shock top still is a different size. I have been tempted to but the insert part of the Volvo tool (the outer part that is used for the nut loosening/tightening is the same size), but if this tool works I need to see if I can find one for the P1/P2 options. Thanks for that info and look forward to see how that works out!

The tool that I got from Amazon worked.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087CQN3QB?re ... asin_title

The groove in the tool is 6mm width and 8mm length. Just the right size for the top of the IPD Nivomat conversion shock.
I added 10mm ID 30mm OD washer under the lock nut just to help it to stay on the center better.. will have to tighten it again after driving at least a few miles or more.
Socket itself is 17mm for the lock nut. Spanner or Crescent wrench of 22mm is needed to tighten the nut.

Update: This tool may not last long. I tried putting it on and off about a dozen times on top of the other shock. So far, it is slowly getting a little lose. But, shock should last at least a few year to 10+ years on XC since the conversion spring is stiffer than original. Cheap at $15.xx

Well, I failed to get the left side done even after disconnecting 3 bolted trailing link mount & 1 bolt on the chassis support. 30" plus pry bar didn't completely remove the lower arm from hub. left spring extended all the way.
Next attempt will be using only 1 of the spring compressor. It appears that this one pulls the bottom/end spring holder up.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQ4R3JFY?re ... asin_title

Plan is to remove wheel and jack up the left suspension to compress the spring. use the spring compressor to lock where it clears to pull out. Do the reverse for new spring to go on..

VolvoOwl98,
What was the part number for the rear sway bar link? FCP only shows bushing that I am still not sure if it is for top of arm or buttom of arm.

Hope it doesn't rain much this weekend.

Can you link to that Amazon tool please?

Be aware a lot of bushing for awd are no longer made or available.

Long thread on trying to find them from scot850

abscate,
I edited my posts to have link to the tools that I got.

The spring compressors set came, but not going to work. It has 2 hooks on top & bottom, but can only hook 1. Our spring is too small in diameter.
After looking through spring compressors again, I ordered another set with only 1 hooks top & bottom to see if that will help.
I am going to try again this weekend without the compressor, but with another scissor jack & floor jack. Hope 2 scissor jacks & 2 floor jacks are enough to keep the car stable while I jump on the pry bar.

Finally got the left side done yesterday. Took about 6 hours. Loosen up the trailing arm rear mounting bolt didnt change much..
Pulling out took about an hour with pry bar.
Someone before me actually glued the lower spring seat. It wouldn't come out. So, just cleaned it up as much as I could.

Putting the arm back up was a whole lot harder (right side didnt habe to pull the arm completely off). Hub bolt sleep (metal tube on the arm) didn't want to go straight up. Had to pull the arm on & off a few times.
Rained 3 times during the work.

I've attached a picture of the spring part number for the IPD Nivomat Conversion Kit.
Shock tool so far worked well.

Now, need to go back to right side for the dumpster retaining pin & fuel pump replacement.
