Hello again gentlemen-
Just curious if anyone knows of any outer mounted solenoid on my Aisin automatic transmission that might affect the shifting. My v70 has 226k on the original AT and it has lunched or jumped the shift pretty hard from 1st to 2nd gear for awhile now. Last a summer I began doing a drain and fill several times trying to get the fluid back to a pinkish color but nothing yet. Not even sure if that will help at all with the hard shifting.

Volvo software update may help along with programming the trans for the fluid flush.
https://www.tsbsearch.com/Volvo/TJ-16761 has the software description.
I've had this software update on the 2001 V70s and the 2004 XC70. All were improved with the update.

Thanks much DavidE7, but after looking over those 7 pages of the technical manual, can I assume that I have to take my car to a Volvo dealer and will they charge me to do this update?

Follow up to my above post. Can a mechanic other than the Volvo dealer do this update?

Yea, provided they have a subscription to access the software download from Volvo. Some of the better/bigger independent specialists will likely be able to do this.Mr. Detail wrote: 15 Jul 2026, 07:56 Follow up to my above post. Can a mechanic other than the Volvo dealer do this update?

You guys will get a kick out of this. I called a local Volvo dealer and after 20 minutes on the phone they could not find the TSB TJ 16761.
I then called another independent Volvo mechanic, and he said there was no need for that number as he would just hook up my car to their software system, and it would tell him if the transmission was up to date or not. $300 to update the software, $85 if it was already updated.
He also tried to sell me on a rebuilt "valve body" for $1,700. Good luck with that.

How do you remanufacture a transmission valve body for a retail price of $99?Mr. Detail wrote: 15 Jul 2026, 11:21 I found a link to a rebuilt vale body. How do I find which AT I have?

Your transmission model is in the owners manual ( which are free online if you don’t have the hard copy)

And he might be right. But bring him a new GM valve body, that needs just a couple of very light mods for your model year.Mr. Detail wrote: 15 Jul 2026, 11:00 He also tried to sell me on a rebuilt "valve body" for $1,700. Good luck with that.
