What tool do I need to remove a 89 Volvo 740 oil filter (B230F)

For my 240 Volvos I always use a universal band filter wrench with a flex handle. It works just fine. I assume the 740 has same access with the same engine. Of course, you have to remove the engine pan, if fitted, and raise the car enough to get under.

I have a hoist so that makes it easier. I was thinking that one of the band clamps might be the way to go as there is maybe only a little over 5mm between the engine mounts arm and the bottom of the oil filter. I have a fairly small chain wrench I have used in the past but it would not go in the gap.

This video shows an oil filter but the one on the 89 740 NA is different. It fits perpendicular to the block and directly above the engine mount arm, and the engine mount arm is cupped upward and the filter fits into that cup. Access from above without removing the heatshield on the exhaust manifold you have little chance of getting one hand on it. Similar from below.

I had this issue this weekend. I have a chain clamp but it wouldn't go on because the filter is too close against the frame. Whatever caveman changed the filter sure put it on tight. I improvised my own band clamp using a 100 grit sanding belt, a short piece of flat bar wrapped around the belt that I could get an adjustable wrench on. It worked well! The 100 grit side against the filter btw.

Earlier red blocks had a slightly different filter location and were easier access.
