A few times after owning a number of 240's automatics I've found that the kick down cable sticks. When this happens you can disconnect it and it just will not kick down. You can replace it, but to have it done plan on $150-$200. My trick rather than replacing it is to disconnect it at the throttle and hook on to the cable end a motorcycle "cable oiler." With this you can force lubricant down inside of the cable sheath. Oil it, work the cable back and forth a few times and it will work like new for a few more years.
