850 - water leak on floor

Post by suisse80 »

i have recently purchased a '97 850 and i am having a recurrent problem. the carpet on the driver's side, front and back becomes soaked with water. i keep the car undercover when it rains but it still becomes wet a day or so afterward. i suspect that the water is collecting somewhere and then overflowing into the interior.
has anyone else had this problem? i would appreciate any suggestions as to what it might be. perhaps condensation is building up somewhere? i have not turned the a/c on in a month or two. about that time, i had the pressure cycling switch replaced. is there a seal or something that the mechanic might have forgotten to put back on?
i am tired of shop-vacing.....

Check your drains under the hood near the windshield, and under the trunk lid on the sides. They get plugged easily. Blow out with canned air, making a seal with your finger. Post back here if you have questions.

I have exactly the same problem with my 850 wagon (97 model) My airco is not leaaking according to the dealer. The draains in my plenum chamber (the plasstic cover where the windshieldwipers come out of) are widely patent. I am wondering iof water could enter through the gaps/seaals between the pastic cover and the drivers side window wiper. (This one has the least depth to it and water could coceivably collect there and drip in). My car collects water under the mat.
I will take the plenum chamber off soon, and have good look at better seaaling those wiper axles. Not sure where else to look. Open to suggestions though.

I had a similar problem. The fix was a leaking windshield. In the upper right hand corner there was a crack in the winshield sealant causing water to run down the a-pillar behind the moulding and collect under the mat. I thought that the sun roof, door or A/C was leaking but found none. It was in fact the windshield. It had never been broken or replaced and is the original. Body flex is the suspected cause.

Thanks steve,

its an interesting thought, and I will investigate. Not sure how yet. One way would be to take the trimmings off and look. I will keep you posted on progress and solutions. I also still have the original windscreen. Hmmm....
