940 1992 missing hose at inlet tube

I'm looking at this car and noticed that this port on the inlet tube is open. See center of attached photo. What system is this a part of? Where does it lead to? And if a special hose is needed, what is the part number or common description?

I've done some searching, but was unable to find any clear info.

I have also done some searching of memory and other places and I have come up with this.

It would appear that the stub pipe is redundant.

Alright. I looked at the car this evening with some light and there is no hole through the pipe. It's just an unused nipple.
